Get the Look: Cosmo Shoot

My father and I took part in this month’s Cosmopolitan feature on daughters with embarrassing fathers.

Before I go any further, I should probably explain that I don’t find my dad embarrassing in the slightest – as an adult I can unequivocally say he is the best man I’ve ever met, with an outlook and work ethic to aspire to. Being 74 has dulled none of his lustre, and he still works nightly at The Tiroler Hut – his labour of love. Some of you may know him and, for those of you who don’t, you need to know the following to understand the youthful embarrassment the Cosmo article focuses on: he wears lederhosen to work and shakes cowbells for a living. Really.

All that aside, I tipped up to the shoot to accompany the article having done my own make-up, and was delighted when the make-up artist Victoria Barnes tweaked my face and hair just a little, then deemed me camera-ready.

Here’s how to get the look:

1) Start with a good base. I am wearing Hourglass Immaculate Foundation in Shell, and applied it with my fingers.

2) Dab concealer where needed with a brush. Here, it is Laura Mercier’s Secret Camouflage in shade 2 applied with MAC’s number 242 brush.

3) Set with powder. Laura Mercier’s Mineral Finishing Powder works brilliantly when dusted on lightly with Liz Earle’s new Powder Brush.

4) Apply a base colour on your eyes, sweeping it from lash line to brow bone. I’ve used Bobbi Brown’s Bone Eyeshadow applied with Stila’s number 5 brush.

5) Line along your top lashes with a fine line. I used Bobbi Brown’s Long-Wear Gel Eyeliner in Chocolate Shimmer, applied with their Ultra Fine Eye Liner Brush.

6) Take a cream shadow and blend it into the liner, smudging it out to the crease in your eyelid. Caroline used Chanel’s Illusion D’Ombre. Try smudging with Liz Earle’s Precision Brush to ensure it is smoothly applied. Pop a little under the centre of your lower lash line remembering to blend, blend, blend.
