Peter’s Almanac humorously says that ‘true beauty comes from within — from within bottles, jars, compacts, and tubes.’ I disagree. Not on moral grounds, oh no – I am married to the pursuit of pulchritude, and gleefully delve into all sorts of pots trying to achieve results.
The reason I disagree is because I have found out that to if you want to maximise what you have on the outside, you need to start thinking about your own insides, not those of bottles. In this case, I didn’t delve into pots, but into tea pots to give my body a boost. Yes, I embarked on a mission to unearth the teas which would really make a difference to my appearance and had a marvellous time at it…

It started with Bloom. They have devised a 5-step tea treatment plan which is designed to support the body’s changing needs from morning to evening. Upon rising I had the reawakening breakfast tea to kick start my metabolism and moved on through the day to the morning fragrant green tea, their digestion-aiding lunchtime white tea, the energising afternoon earl grey and the evening caffeine-free Rooibos right before bed. By the fourth day I had become used to visiting to the kettle every three or so hours and was beginning to feel good. The kind of good you get when you have been eating well, or spent a few days on holiday. By the end of 10 days, my eyes were more sparkling and my skin more glowing than usual. I have just placed a repeat order – to look better through drinking delicious teas is something I will joyously do monthly.

I went on to shop around the tea aisles and hit the jackpot. First I found Teapig’s Matcha Green Tea.The clever piglets over at teapigs have found a way to turn green tea into a fine powder boosting the antioxidant properties by 137 times – that’s a lot of goodness. It tasted quite bland, and required a regular stir to stop it separating, but I persevered and am glad to report it seems to done wonders for my complexion.
I went on to Clearspring’s wonderful selection of green teas next. They’ve infused theirs with delicious, clean flavours – I loved roasted rice, and loved that I found myself addicted to something so good for me.
I then found Caudalie’s offering. They created a ‘draining’ tea for their Vinotherapie Spa Tea Room and decided to sell it to help people streamline their silhouettes at home. It is packed with organic health-promoting plants and tastes delicious hot or cold.

A big mug everyday is really very good for reducing the dreaded bloat. I stopped there. I had a fully-stocked cupboard and I am sure my constant dashes between the kettle, computer and loo were providing me with both ample exercise and beauty from the inside. The humble cuppa sure has come a long way.
